Cancer Warrior - Anticipated Dread

StLouisYesterday was my three week visit with Dr. Mac. Discussed the nasty reaction I had to the first round of chemo and what we could do to alleviate any side effects this time around. She suggested a twice daily dose of Dexamethasone for five days following treatment. It’s a steroid and with luck will prove effective. I’m game to try anything. Fingers crossed.

Following my appointment, I went to the infusion area for round two of the Chemo Cocktail From Hell. I told myself to be positive about this treatment; that it won’t effect me the same way it did the first time around. (I ain’t holdin’ my breath.)

Yes, once again it took forever to administer … although this time it was four and a half hours as opposed to five. Not a big diff. I got out of there around 1:30. Had a text from darlin’ daughter saying she was feeling sick and could I pick her up from school. She’d been feelin’ crummy in the morning and I told her to call or text if she needed to come home. Well, it appears she got daddy’s nasty cold. We’ll see if she needs to stay home tomorrow. Finally got to work around 2:30, so the day was already fairly shot.

Will keep everyone posted on the upcoming week and whether I react to the CCFH (Chemo Cocktail From Hell). In a masochistic sort of way, I’m interested in seeing whether or not this is gonna be just as nasty or nastier than round one.

And remember to repeat after me …“YOU ARE A CANCER WARRIOR”

Liz, everything crossed that the effects aren’t as debilitating this time. I hope your darlin’ daughter’s cold doesn’t last long, either.

Same here, Edie, on both counts. Right now, I was awake at 3:00 a.m. and decided that sleep wasn’t gonna happen. The steroids, y’know. Still, made it productive. Did a bit of work on the WIP … so that was good.

The bad is the fact that I’m in a fog today. Just cannot wake up. Plan on going home after work and straight to bed.

    Hope to see ya tomorrow.

I don’t know how big the office is where you work but I imagine that there are people that get pissed at your excellent attendance!

You make it hard to call off work!!

Fingers are crossed for you that this round will be easier on you.

  4. Liz Kreger Says:

Thanx Susan. I work for a small law firm with one other support staff … actually, I’m the only support staff now that we just fired the other. Talk about bad attendance. The people I work for are incredibly understanding about my treatments, etc. They’ve been with me through thick and thin, so there’s little that I won’t do for them … including skipping lunches for the past several years (only taking long enough to eat somethin’) and never charging for overtime. So between that and the time it takes for my medical junk, it pretty well evens out one way or another.
