Koman Walk for the Cure

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

maryi1.jpgAs I mentioned earlier this week over at MagicalMusings, the Susan B. Koman Walk for the Cure was a rousing success here in Milwaukee. The day was gorgeous, the participants enthusiastic. Good combination. According to the newspaper, there were over 10,500 registered participants. I’m sure this doesn’t include the children and the dogs that were brought along. Sorta funny seeing some of those dogs dressed in pink t-shirts.

Anyway, also according to the newspaper, the walk/race raised over $800,000. Pretty damned impressive if you ask me. This probably isn’t including the donations that will be mailed in at a later date. I spoke with a couple of people who said they intended to mail in their donations after the race. The lines were pretty long.

Between the two of us, my sister and I raised over $1,000. Reached my goal and intend to exceed it next year.

Repeat after me … “YOU ARE A CANCER WINNER”

Sneakin’

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

You can always tell when I have a couple of free moments at work. I either sneak in a game of Spider Solitaire, or I go blog hopping. Don’t often get a chance to do either, but its a distraction when the job gets too hectic.

I was over at Edie Ramer’s and Michelle Diener’s blogs. Both always have interesting things to say. I wish I would update this sucker more often, but time is always a premium.

However, since I do have about a half hour to kill, I’m gonna check out the PW blog and Karin Tabke’s. (Shhhh)

Top Ten - Mythical Creatures

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Sorry I’m late in getting this puppy up. Slipped my mind. Easy to do given that its a Monday. Anyway, since I write paranormal, I wanted to post my favorite critters.

- Vampires (of course)
- Werewolves
- Dragons
- Merpeople
- Elves
- Fairies
- Skinwalkers
- Selkies
- Griffons
- Phoenix

There are probably a ton more, but these are the first ten that I can think of.

The Cancer Winner - Causes

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Over the years I’ve heard a lot of rumor as to what causes cancer. Most of it rubbish. There’s the one about the use of deodorant, dying your hair, using tampons, howling at the full moon on a hot summer night (okay, I made up that last one).

Who knows what ultimately causes cancer cells to form. Why does it appear in one person and not the other? Are we predisposed through genetics? Maybe, but there’s no history of breast cancer in my family. Granted various female members of my family died of different afflictions at different ages, so who knows if breast cancer would have manifested at a later time.

Well, thanx to me, we now have a history in my family. I’m grateful that I won’t be passing this on down to my daughter. She was adopted, so we don’t share the same genes. I do, however, harp at my sisters to get regular check ups. I think I handled this … shall we call it … adventure pretty well. Who knows how other people would. I’d rather not find out.

Top Ten - Favorite TV Shows

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

That’s a toughie. Primarily because I really don’t watch much television. Still, I’ll give it a shot.

- Heroes (love that show and make it a point of watching each week.
- Dresden Files (turkeys canceled this one)
- MASH (you can always find it on cable somewhere)
- Most historical stories found on Discovery Channel
- And most historical stories found on the Historical Channel
- House Hunting on HGTV
- Veronica Mars (which I think they also discontinued)
-

Dang … can’t think of two others. Told ya I don’t watch television.
